Chat rooms
To define a chat room: An internet chat room is a website, or part of a website, sometimes a service like chatting.com, that provides a way for users who may share common interests to communicate with one another in real time.
Chat rooms do not require (normally) anyone to have special software. They ask for a username to identify oneself uniquely, and a password as to allow the user to keep that name unique to themselves.
Inside a chat room there is generally a list of users. Users are normally alerted about other users entering or leaving the chat room. Users enter what they would like to say into a text box and then it is posted immediately to be seen by all other users of the chat room. Chat rooms mostly consist of many other sub rooms, with unique names for the discussion they are intended for.
Because of the fact that chat rooms make what people say instantly visible to others, at times its very prone to abuse. Most sites, including ours post a F.A.Q and a terms of service to notify people of what is and is not appropriate behavior.
It is often best practice when joining a chat room to announce yourself politely, slowly introducing yourself the community. When asking a question it is best to direct the question directly towards the person who it is intended for as to prevent confusion or unwanted feedback from the questions.
Sometimes disruptive users try to take over conversations with their input regarding it in a very aggressive manner which sometimes can become quite annoying, for these reasons it is best to simply ignore those users (chatting.com lets you ignore users).
Other users disrupt users by continously scrolling the same text over and over, often simply called spamming and/or scrolling. In these situations it is simply best to ignore those users with the ignore functions.
Despite the problems sometimes users experience in chat rooms, they can be quite enjoyable. Bringing your own friends or group of friends into the chat room make your time and the time others much more enjoyable. Making new friends can be fun and interesting over a chat room. One must always be cautious over providing personal details, regardless of the situation. Whether it is over the internet or a local gathering in the city, always be careful who you provide your personal information to.
